International Misophonia Foundation Launches Sensory Accessible Technology Initiative to Address Overlooked Digital Accessibility Barriers

New initiative invites technology companies to collaborate on sensory accessibility improvements across software, operating systems, gaming, and digital products.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — November 1, 2026. The International Misophonia Foundation (IMF) has launched the Sensory Accessible Technology Initiative (SAT-I), a nonprofit project focused on sensory accessibility barriers in software, operating systems, websites, gaming, and hardware.

The initiative examines technology features that can interfere with access for people with misophonia, autism, migraine disorders, and other sensory processing differences. Examples include blinking text cursors, animated loading indicators, repetitive interface sounds, visual motion effects, and noisy peripherals.

Building on the foundation’s earlier technology accessibility advocacy, SAT-I plans to document these obstacles, develop practical recommendations, and encourage improvements across digital products.

Its initial priorities are non-blinking text cursors, static alternatives to animated loading indicators, comprehensive motion controls, individual controls for interface sounds, and consistent accessibility preferences across operating systems and applications.

SAT-I invites technology companies, developers, gaming businesses, and hardware manufacturers to participate in its free Technology Partner program. Participating organizations may review recommendations and discuss potential accessibility improvements. Financial contributions and commitments to implement specific changes are not required.

The initiative also accepts corporate sponsorships and donations supporting sensory accessibility research, education, advocacy, and technology recommendations.
